Where would we be without our phones?
Once upon a time, Prince Phillip was reputed to be the only person in the United Kingdom with a mobile phone. The Prince could make phone calls to the Queen while driving in his Aston Martin, which was thought to be quite incredible at the time. Although people thought it was amazing, the 40 kilogram device took up most of the boot space in your car, required its own designated radio frequency and drained the car battery with every couple of calls.
That was 1956 and people can be forgiven for thinking the idea would never take off. However, by 1981 when the first generation of mobiles emerged, it still wasn’t seen as something that would “take off”. The next 10 years, in my opinion, saw one of the biggest success stories of all time. When the GSM system was introduced in 1991 there were 16 million mobile users across the world. This, the second generation of mobile technology saw the invention of the SMS “text message”. When the first person to person text message was sent in 1993, many of us could not understand the hype and many people questioned – why?
We should have learnt from previous scepticism and known that the Mobile phone would change people’s lifestyles. Now in 2010, people queue overnight for the latest “must have” mobile device. It makes day-to-day communication so much easier and has meant that we can communicate with each other whenever we choose, wherever we choose. It means that many practical matters can be dealt with in a more efficient and comfortable way and a lot of things can be done even when we are “on the go” and in our spare moments.
I own a mobile phone company called M-Viron (staffs.) Limited. I would like to say I have built my own miniature success story around the mobile phone. The number of people I see in my stores who appear physically stressed by the thought of being without their mobile phone is remarkable. I have many customers to whom I sold their first mobile phone now commenting that they never thought they would become dependent upon their mobile.
For businesses all over the world mobile technology is not just a way to communicate. Mobiles now provide so much more than this. They have become an integral part of how businesses run. BlackBerry® has become the leading smartphone device which has contributed to the reliance of the modern business on mobile technology. Over 41 million people use BlackBerry smartphones through 550 carriers and distribution partners in 175 countries around the world.
M-Viron specialise in Blackberry solutions for businesses all over the UK. Not only do BlackBerry devices allow mobile users to access communications and information wirelessly, they incorporate email, corporate data, calenders, internet and intranet access. They also offer its users some fun with the newer models of BlackBerry offering features such as camera and video, multimedia players and social networking.
